Belly Button Buddies' Favourites

Stuff Your Buttons
These crispy little divots are delightful with almost any filling and can be made from your choice of bread.
Cut crusts from sandwich loaf slices and discard. Cut each slice into four pieces. Press into tiny ungreased muffin cups. The empty muffin cup should hold only 4 teaspoons of filling.
Push the bread squares into the muffin cups using a wooden tart press. Bake the bread-lined muffin cups for 15 minutes at 350° F or until the corners are slightly browned.
Turn the pan upside down to remove toast cups. Cool. Store cups in a tin until ready to use.
To Serve: Fill cups as desired and place on a platter or invite your guests to fill their own. When having a Stuff Your Buttons party, provide several filling options. Serve the toast cups in a basket nearby.
Favourite Fillings: egg salad, chicken salad, chili, antipasto, grated vegetables, grated cheese, grated pickles, small berries, or anything else that seems delicious.
Note to Mothers and Grandmothers:
Small children love to have their snacks in small containers. Children enjoy filling their own toast cups. Imagine multi-grain buttons filled with banana and peanut butter, or raisin toast cups filled with grated apples and shredded cheese. This can be a nutritious and delicious way to eat.
For less imaginative or adult guests you can refer to stuffed buttons as toast cups. They make wonderful appetizers no matter what you call them.
